The CVCS Baseball team enters the season ready to compete after months of preparation that began back in late August. Under Head Coach Clemente Bonilla, now entering his 20th season leading the program, the Eagles have put in steady work throughout their offseason. Coach Bonilla describes this year’s group as a scrappy and gritty bunch, eager to build on the program’s winning tradition.
The Eagles return a strong core of experienced players. Seniors Dom French and Drake Bothwell look to repeat their big offensive production from last season, while junior Barron Butler aims to build on an impressive senior campaign. In the field, Diego Magee will patrol centerfield with his athletic range, while senior Brett Slymen, committed to Georgia Tech, will lead the on the mound as the team’s ace pitcher. Senior Drew Martin, committed to Lewis and Clark, will provide versatility behind the plate and at first base, while Hunter Thalken and Jack Basso are expected to bring added power to the lineup.
Team captain Dom French is excited about what lies ahead. “All of the boys have been working really hard and pushing each other to be the best every day,” French said. “It’s going to be a fun senior season, and we’re going to give it all we’ve got to make a run in the CIF playoffs.”
The team’s goals extend beyond wins and losses, with an emphasis on growing as men and teammates while serving one another and the community. On the field, the Eagles aim to capture their 16th consecutive league championship while making another deep run in the CIF playoffs. Coach Bonilla believes the team’s offensive strength, energy, and instincts will define this year’s squad.
Senior pitcher Brett Slymen is ready to take on the challenge. “We’ve played hard since last summer, and I’m excited to compete for our school,” he said. “It should be a fun senior year.”
The Eagles face a demanding schedule that includes tournament appearances at Loara and the Anaheim Lions Tournament, along with matchups against strong programs such as San Clemente, Trabuco Hills, Edison, and Mission Viejo.
Outfielder Diego Magee summed up the team’s mindset heading into the season: “I’m ready to compete with my boys beside me one more time and give my all for them while helping us reach our ultimate goal, a CIF run.”
With experienced leadership, offensive firepower, and a continued commitment to excellence, the Eagles are prepared for another exciting season on the diamond.
